2.2.6 Assignment - 2/9 in Google Classroom

2.2.6 Assignment - 2/9

Hey, everyone! Today's assignment is a group project, so you'll probably be able to get it done during class and not have any homework. It's on 2.1.6.

Your objectives for the day:
Demonstrate techniques in molecular biology and interpret results.
Synthesize complex medical information to diagnose disease.
Select and use appropriate tools, techniques, and technologies to investigate medical questions.

DO NOT FORGET TO TURN IN YOUR WARM UPS - I cannot see them unless you PRESS THE TURN IN BUTTON

Assignment:
Read through "It's All in the Family" and answer the ethical scenario (you can type your answer on PLTW - remember to give your answer and back it up with good reasoning!). Read through the rest of the information and the orange box - you will complete this comprehensive report with the people at your table group.

Read through "Diagnosing with Molecular Biology" and be sure to take notes on anything that has been a difficult concept for you. Answer the reflection question (you can type this on PLTW)

Be SURE to read the information under the reflection question. There is important information there for you to understand Aki's medical information.

Read through "Complete Your Plan" - it says for you to write this all in your notebook, but you can type it all here. I will not be using the rubric under #1 to grade this, I will just be using the checklist in the orange box under #1. YOU WILL HAVE TO DO RESEARCH - please use reliable sources and do NOT google "Aki Kim" or "PLTW" - be real people and not robots, and actually FIGURE IT OUT. You do not need to cheat - you are smarter than that.

Instead of completing the lab testing, I have just given you the results for the gel electrophoresis here.

Even though I have given you this google doc to share with your table group to complete this project, it is CRUCIAL that you read through this activity. Familial Hypercholesterolemia will certainly be on your EOC.

As you're doing this/once you're done, I want you to have a synopsis of FH in your notebook: what is FH? What are the symptoms? How do you get FH? How is it treated? All of these questions need to be answered in your notebook.

Exit Ticket:
Fill out the Peer Review google form about your group.
